Curriculum Vitae

Susanne Brakmann studied Chemistry and received her diploma at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Her Ph. D. thesis on the "Synthesis and Stereoselective Biotransformation of Silicon-Organic and Germanium-Organic Substrates" at the University of Karlsruhe under the supervision of Reinhold Tacke was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with Manfred Eigen at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Göttingen. Here she turned her research interests to the biocatalytic activities of enzymes and started independent research on "Directed Evolution of Enzymes" with a focus on polynucleotide polymerases. She applied her knowledge during an employment at Evotec Biosystems AG and then, moved to the University of Leipzig as a head of the junior research group „Applied Molecular Evolution“. She received her habilitation from the Technical University of Braunschweig before she moved to the University of Technology's Department of Chemical Biology in Dortmund where she leads the research group "Evolutionary Biotechnology".
