Reactivity and Structure Building Principles of „Schlosser’s Base“ - Dr. Christian Unkelbach, Ulrike Kroesen

It has been long known that the prodigious metalating power of traditional lithiumorganic bases can be further augmented even further by the addition of heavier alkali alkoxides to form superbasic mixtures. The “LiCKOR base” or “Schlosser’s Base”, a mixture of BuLi and KOtBu is one of the best known examples for such superbasic mixtures. As such, it has been used to great effect on a variety of substrates which withstand metalation attempts by monometallic alkyllithium bases.[1]


An emerging area of interest in our group is the reinvestigation of the structure-buidling principles of Schlosser’s base and related superbasic mixtures. In addition, we are interested in the possible, as of yet undisclosed synthetic applications for this superbase.[2]
